 MEMORY

Our first week of Memory was pretty good!

The children will tell me the verses in the morning. Please practice the night before and go over those in the car on the way to school. If they are having a hard time remembering, all they need to do is listen to the others children say the verse.

For Tuesday:  The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

For Thursday: The Lord is faithful to all his promises. Psalm 145:13

Vocabulary

nature - nibble - wild - focus (You can ask your child what they mean at the end of the week after we have gone over them!)

SPELLING

(Not yet!)

READING

Let's try this again....STAR testing will be done this Tuesday and Wednesday to determine placement in the AR (Accelerated Reader) program and grade level reading levels. Look at the Scholastic book orders then to determine which books might be appropriate for your child to read.  It is ALWAYS good to still be reading other materials to them!  First Graders love to read to!

Fun Reading in the Room:  Last week was Down by the Bay!  This week we will do Rain.

MATH

I will be giving the first assessments with the doubles facts and beginning math concepts in Lesson 10-1 and 10-2.  Then we are on to +0 and +1 facts....we will be fast and this an easy review for all! I will also review time to the half hour, patterns and ordinal numbers (first, second, etc.)

D'Nealian/Handwriting

On to the alphabet....we work on the letters in a sequence of the way they are formed, with "a" being first and then "d."

Please insist when writing their name on work to use one capital letter at the beginning and then lower case letters!  Remember to remind your child to hold their pencil properly and always try their best to be neat!

PE (Monday & Wednesday)

Girls should wear a skort or shorts that day.  Everyone should have on good sturdy tennis shoes! Our first quarter is fitness and conditioning.

SHARE

We are so excited to begin Share!!!  However, for this week they are bringing home a paper to draw a picture on something they did this summer.  Please practice with them what they are going to say about that picture.

  • REMINDERS - Field Trip Money was due Friday, 9-3. If you did not do that your child may be left out of any trip that must have a reservation and deposit in now.
